It seems that we are with some real Inventions much more near Science-Fiction than we thought. So it will be with food automats. To the range of „Rapid Prototyping“ (3D-printing) is a now new application added: digital gastronomy!

First representative could be Cornucopia designed by Marcelo Coelho and Amit Zoran at MIT.
The basic idea: A device to make food out of standard ingredients. The raw materials are liquid and are, similar to an Inkjet-printer, put on a plate via a nozzle.
